Bayesian change point estimation in Poisson-based control charts

چکیده مقاله:
Precise identification of the time when a process has changed enables process engineers to search for a potential special cause more effectively. In this paper, we develop change point estimation methods for a Poisson process in a Bayesian framework. We apply Bayesian hierarchical models to formulate the change point where there exists a step < /div> change, a linear trend and a known multiple number of changes in the Poisson rate. The Markov chain Monte Carlo is used to obtain posterior distributions of the change point parameters and corresponding probabilistic intervals and inferences. The performance of the Bayesian estimator is investigated through simulations and the result shows that precise estimates can be obtained when they are used in conjunction with the well-known c-, Poisson exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) and Poisson cumulative sum (CUSUM) control charts for different change type scenarios. We also apply the Deviance Information Criterion as a model selection criterion in the Bayesian context, to find the best change point model for a given dataset where there is no prior knowledge about the change type in the process. In comparison with built-in estimators of EWMA and CUSUM charts and ML based estimators, the Bayesian estimator performs reasonably well and remains a strong alternative. These superiorities are enhanced when probability quantification, flexibility and generalizability of the Bayesian change point detection model are also considered.

متن کاملResampling-Based Change Point Estimation
Change point detecting problem is an important task in data mining applications. Standard statistical procedures for change point detection, based on maximum likelihood estimators, are complex and require building of parametric models of data. Instead, the methods of computational statistics replace complex statistical procedures with an amount of computation; so these methods become more popul...
متن کاملOn Control Charts Based on the Generalized Poisson Model
The Poisson distribution is widely used to fit count data such as the number of nonconformities in a product unit. However, this distribution fails to fit the defect data in a high-quality manufacturing environment when over-dispersion occurs. In this paper, the generalized Poisson distribution is studied as an alternative distribution. The generalized Poisson distribution is flexible and capab...

n) rate up to some logarithmic factor, showing the exact parametric rate of convergence of the posterior distribution requires additional work and assumptions. Additionally, we demonstrate the asymptotic normality of the segment levels under these assumptions. For inferences on the number of change-points, we show that the Bayesian approach can produce a consistent posterior estimate. Finally, ...
متن کاملBayesian Estimation of Change-Point in Unobserved-ARCH Models
Change-point problem deals with sudden change in the distribution of a set of given data. Change in financial time series is a common event, because many factors for example some news, etc. may affect the series and cause change. In this work, we intend to detect the time of change-point, using Bayesian methods in Unobserved-ARCH models. We estimate the model and the time of the change-point.
متن کاملRemarks on Bayesian Control Charts
There is a considerable amount of ongoing research on the use of Bayesian control charts for detecting a shift from a good quality distribution to a bad quality distribution in univariate and multivariate processes. It is widely claimed that Bayesian control charts are economically optimal; see, for example, Calabrese (1995) [Bayesian process control for attributes. Management Science, DOI: 10....
